Joby Aviation, a leading developer of electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, is poised to revolutionize urban transportation in Dubai with the launch of its air taxi services by late 2025. This initiative aligns with Dubai’s vision to become a global hub for advanced air mobility, offering residents and tourists a futuristic mode of travel across the city.
The company’s eVTOL aircraft are designed to carry a pilot and four passengers, reaching speeds up to 200 mph with a range of 100 miles. These all-electric air taxis promise zero operating emissions and significantly reduced noise levels compared to traditional helicopters, making them an environmentally friendly and efficient alternative for urban commutes.

In collaboration with Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Skyports, Joby has commenced construction of its first vertiport at Dubai International Airport (DXB). This facility is part of an initial network that includes planned vertiports at Palm Jumeirah, Dubai Downtown, and Dubai Marina, ensuring seamless connectivity between key destinations. The DXB vertiport is strategically integrated with Dubai Metro’s Emirates Station 2 and other ground transportation options, facilitating easy transfers for passengers.

Joby’s entry into the Dubai market is bolstered by a six-year exclusive agreement with the RTA, reflecting the Emirate’s commitment to pioneering advanced air mobility solutions. The company has also initiated the process of obtaining an Air Operator Certificate from the UAE’s General Civil Aviation Authority, a crucial step toward commencing commercial operations.

The introduction of air taxis is expected to transform urban mobility in Dubai, offering a rapid and convenient alternative to traditional ground transportation. Passengers can anticipate drastically reduced travel times; for instance, a journey from Dubai International Airport to Palm Jumeirah could be completed in approximately 10 minutes, providing not only efficiency but also breathtaking aerial views of the city’s skyline.

Joby Aviation’s advancements are supported by significant investments, including a recent $500 million infusion from Toyota, underscoring confidence in the company’s technology and vision. As the countdown to 2025 continues, Dubai stands at the forefront of integrating cutting-edge air mobility solutions, setting a precedent for cities worldwide.
