We use three analytics tools, and they are not the same in how they treat your data.
Vercel Web Analytics counts page views. It sets no cookies, does not follow you between websites, and collects no information that identifies you. It runs on every visit and needs no consent.
Google Analytics tells us which articles are read and where readers arrive from. It does set cookies. It is switched off until you accept it. When you first visit, a banner asks, and until you choose Accept, Google Analytics stores nothing on your device. If you choose Reject, it stays off and we still receive only anonymous, aggregate counts with no cookie set.
PostHog shows us how the site is used: which pages are visited, how articles and the reading tools (listening, summaries and text size) are used, and whether our forms are sent successfully. It keeps an identifier in a cookie and in your browser's storage so it can recognise your next visit, and it may record your session (your clicks, scrolling and page changes, with anything you type into a form hidden) so we can see where the site is hard to use. If you choose Reject, PostHog stores nothing on your device, stops recording, and deletes what it had stored; your visit is still counted anonymously. If you send us an enquiry, request our Media Pack or sign up to our newsletter, we link the name and email address you give us to your earlier visits, unless you chose Reject. We never send your message to PostHog. PostHog stores this information in the United States.
Your choice is remembered in your browser so you are not asked again. To change it, clear this site's data in your browser settings and the banner will appear on your next visit. You can also block cookies for this site entirely in your browser.
