The UAE is setting up dedicated air routes for air taxis and cargo drones. The General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has announced plans to map aerial corridors and develop regulations for these new transportation methods.
According to the UAE’s official news agency WAM, air taxis are set to launch in 2026.

The project, expected to take about 20 months, will be led by the GCAA in collaboration with the Technology Innovation Institute (TII) and ASPIRE. These corridors will connect major airports with key locations, making it easier for air taxis and drones to operate safely within urban areas. The goal is to reduce road congestion and create a structured system for these new technologies.
Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director General of the GCAA, said that setting up these routes is essential for integrating advanced air mobility into the UAE’s infrastructure. Dr. Najwa Aaraj, CEO of TII, added that the project will help improve connectivity and create sustainable mobility solutions.

Dubai has been testing flying taxis since 2017, starting with Germany’s Volocopter. More recently, Joby Aviation, a U.S. company, has applied for certification to operate air taxi services in the UAE.
Also recently; Jetex, a leading provider of global private aviation services based in Dubai, has announced a strategic partnership with Joby Aviation to advance regional air mobility across the Middle East
With the UAE moving forward on these aerial corridors, the success of the project will depend on careful planning, strong regulations, and cooperation between government agencies and private companies.
